The UAW has made many concessions already; the auto industry is paying today for bad decisions made decades ago - the primary one being when they chose to fight against national health care and assume the responsibility for medical and pension benefits on their own.

If you force water or any other liquid into someone's lungs, then you are drowning that someone. You are not "simulating" that someone's drowning. Now, you make stop forcing water or any other liquid into their lungs before they die, but they were still drowned.

This is a very well reasoned post and so it leaves me with only one quibble: we must replace short haul air travel with something equally swift, so that its convenience will pull this portion of air travel customers away from the skies.
